2023 BMW X6 Drops Camo, Reveals Production Grille and Bumper Design

The 2023 BMW X6 has taken another step closer to the showroom with these pictures of a prototype that show the final grille and bumper design.

Previous test cars featured a fine mesh covering over the grille kidneys’ centers, and the lower section of the front bumper was heavily disguised to obscure the shape of the production air intakes.

While this newer development car still has a camo wrap on its front end, it has lost the grille mesh to show the traditional vertical grille vanes which are likely to get a subtly different finish this time around. But what really makes this BMW test car stand out from the pre-facelift X6s is the design of the lower air intakes. The J-shaped vertical vents at the outer edges of the front bumper are new, as are the triangular intakes located further toward the license plate.

We’re expecting to see some small changes to the headlight design too, although the overall size and shape of the lamp unit won’t change. Like the X6’s more practical X5 brother, the X6 doesn’t get the split headlamp arrangement seen in more expensive BMW SUVs like the X7 and XM.

It’s best not to read too much into what you can see at the back end of this X6 because this car’s rear is lifted straight from the current SUV’s lineup. But we already know from earlier shots of prototypes that BMW also has some design changes planned for the back end of the facelifted model, potentially including new exhaust tailpipe finishers and smoothing over the vertical air outlets seen on this white car.

The interior will benefit from an even bigger overhaul that brings a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen combined into one curved display, while the engine bay’s contents will also get a small update. The X6 M50i will be replaced by the X6 M60i and feature a mild-hybrid version of BMW’s 4.4-liter V8 making 523 hp (390 kW/530 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque, plus BMW will offer a PHEV X6 for the first time by dropping in the X5 xDrive45e’s 389 hp (395 PS) electrified 3.0-liter, six-cylinder powertrain.
