2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R Teased, Hear It’s Supercharged V8 Roar

When Ford introduced the redesigned F-150 Raptor last year, the company announced plans for an even more extreme R variant that would go toe-to-toe with the Ram 1500 TRX.

It appears the company is now ready to hunt the tyrannosaurus as Ford CEO Jim Farley has posted a teaser video on Twitter.

Set to debut later this year, the 2023 F-150 Raptor R follows in the footsteps of the standard model but adopts a supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8. The engine produces an impressive 760 hp (567 kW / 771 PS) and 625 lb-ft (846 Nm) of torque in the Shelby GT500 Mustang, although it might be retuned for truck use.

However, there’s little doubt the engine will be well-suited to battle the TRX’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that develops 702 hp (523 kW / 712 PS) and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. While there’s no word on how fast the Raptor R will be, the TRX can rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds, run the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds at 108 mph (174 km/h), and hit a top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h).

While Ford is keeping tight-lipped about the truck, a purported window sticker surfaced in May suggesting the model will have unique 17-inch wheels wrapped in massive 37-inch all-terrain tires. We can also expect 4.10 gearing, skid plates, and an electronic locking rear differential. They’ll be joined by an off-road focused suspension with Fox shocks as well as Trail Control and a Terrain Management system.

Given its range-topping status, the Raptor R should come nicely equipped and the window sticker suggested buyers will find a leather-wrapped steering wheel and Recaro leather front seats. They should be joined by power adjustable pedals, a dual-zone climate control system, and a 12-inch SYNC 4 infotainment system.
