2023 Ford Maverick Tremor Rises To The Occasion With 1-Inch Lift And More Advanced AWD System


The Ford Maverick turned the truck segment on its head by being small, affordable, and fuel efficient.

Consumers responded in droves, turning the compact pickup into an overnight sensation. Ford isn’t resting on their laurels, though, as they’re introducing a new Maverick Tremor for 2023.

Looking decidedly more rugged, the Maverick Tremor features a revised grille and an angled front bumper for an improved approach angle. Buyers will also find Tremor Orange tow hooks, blacked-out Ford logos, and new lighting units with dark accents. They’re joined by 17-inch alloy wheels, which feature a dark gray anodized finish as well as a Tremor Orange accent.

Customers looking for something more unique can opt for the $1,495 Tremor Appearance Package, which adds a Carbonized Gray roof and matching mirror caps. The package also includes black graphics on the hood and body side.

Interior changes are modest by comparison, but drivers will find Black Onyx seats with Tremor Orange contrast stitching as well as “Tremor” embroidery on the backrests. They’re joined by black door pulls and air vents.

Power is provided by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that produces 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) and 277 lb-ft (375 Nm) of torque. While the engine is shared with the mainstream variant, the Tremor gets a unique all-wheel drive system with a twin-clutch rear-drive unit featuring a differential lock function. It can divert virtually all rear axle torque to either wheel for enhanced off-road capability.

Besides the Bronco Sport-like all-wheel drive system, the Tremor builds on the FX4 Off-Road Package and features a rugged suspension with unique springs and shocks. Those aren’t the only changes as the truck comes equipped with steel skid plates, a heavy-duty transmission cooler, upgraded half-shafts, and a 1 inch (25 mm) lift. The Tremor also has a drive mode selector and a Trail Control system, which functions as low-speed cruise control for off-roading.

Speaking of venturing off the beaten path, the Maverick Tremor has approach, departure, and breakover angles of 30.7, 22.2, and 19.9 degrees respectively. While it’s no F-150 Raptor R, all of those numbers are improvements over the all-wheel drive Maverick and the approach angle increases a substantial 9.1 degrees.

The Tremor Off-Road Package costs $2,995 and will be available exclusively on XLT and Lariat trims. That sounds pretty reasonable and the model will go up for order in September.
