2023 Toyota GR Corolla Pricing Revealed, Ranges From $35,900 To $49,900

After almost a full year of eager anticipation, Toyota has finally announced all the details for the GR Corolla, from trim levels and equipment to pricing to available packages.

Unlike the Honda Civic Type R, which is entirely front-wheel drive, the base GR Corolla actually comes with an AWD system that can send up to 70 percent of its power to the rear wheels. It also happens to be offered with three different trim levels, with prices ranging from $35,900 to $49,900.

The base Core model, which costs $35,900 before a Dealer Processing and Handling fee of $1,095, comes with 300 horsepower (223 kW) and 275 pound-feet (372 Nm) of torque and is the only GR Corolla in the lineup available with packages. The most expensive of them is the Performance pack ($1,180) which adds Torsen limited-slip differentials both front and rear, 14-inch ventilated and slotted front brake rotors, four-piston red-painted front calipers, and two-piston red-painted calipers out back.

On top of that, GR Corolla Core buyers can add the Technology package ($770) which includes a wireless smartphone charger, a Premium JBL sound system, and integrated navigation. Finally, a Cold Weather package ($500) adds heated seats and a heated steering wheel to the hot hatch. The Core is available in Ice Cap, Black, and, for a $425 up charge, Supersonic Red colors and will arrive on dealer lots in November of 2022.

Those who want more can opt for the GR Corolla Circuit Edition which is priced at $42,900. It’s only going to be around for the 2023 year model and it adds all of the available packages from the Core model as standard along with a real carbon fiber roof, vented bulge hood, faux leather-trimmed sport seats, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and a rear lip spoiler. The Circuit Edition won’t be available until the Spring of 2023.

The top-of-the-line Morizo Edition starts at $49,900 and might be the most motorsport-friendly hot hatch in the market when it comes out. It has the same horsepower as the Core and Circuit but bumps torque to 295 pound-feet (399 Nm). In addition, it comes with Michelin Cup 2 tires and shaves off about 100 pounds worth of total weight. It does that in part by completely deleting the rear seats. While we can’t tell you anything about the driving experience just yet it’s safe to say that we expect all 200 of these rare GR Corolla editions to go quickly when they arrive on dealer lots sometime in the Spring of 2023.

The Competition

The major elephant in the room that might rain on the GR Corolla’s parade is the new 2023 Honda Civic Type R. While Honda has yet to release pricing on it we expect it to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $40,000. We also know that it has a little more horsepower (315 hp / 234 kW) and the same torque figure as the Morizo Edition.

The outgoing Civic Type R started at $38,910, so it would be shocking to see the new one go for less than that. Could Honda change its mind now that it knows that Toyota is going to undercut it? Maybe, but we doubt it.

The Volkswagen Golf R is another potential matchup for the GR Corolla but it starts at just north of $45,000 and, like the Toyota, features AWD. Beyond these three cars, there aren’t many hot hatches that match up well. The Hyundai Veloster N might have been a contender if it hadn’t been discontinued after the 2022 model year.
