A new generation of BMW M5 is in the works and these renderings provide us a hint at what it could look like.
Our eagle-eyed spy photographers have snapped the upcoming sports sedan testing on a number of occasions in recent months. While these prototypes have been bathed completely in camouflage, we know that the new M5 will look quite different to the outgoing model.

In trying to imagine how the 2024 model will look, Sugar Design has rendered it from both the front and rear after closely analyzing spy photographs. The front is perhaps the most significant area of change on the M5 as the current headlights have been ditched completely and replaced with new lights, complete with sharp LED daytime running lights.
Elsewhere, the talented designer has created a new bumper for the M5 with a pronounced black lower grille and black kidney grilles. We think it looks okay but aren’t convinced it looks any better than the current model. Then there is the rear, an area which we do think looks better.
The taillights of the existing M5 are gone and have been replaced by slimmer LED units complete with a light bar stretching the width of the rear. It’s not yet known if the 2024 M5 will indeed have a light bar but it would be an obvious design inclusion given how popular light bars like these have become. Sugar Design has also crafted a different bumper, diffuser, and tailpipe surrounds.
Beyond its new looks, the 2024 BMW M5 is expected to share its powertrain with the XM, meaning it should feature an updated 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, an electric motor, and a small lithium-ion battery pack. If it matches the output of the XM, then it should pump out a combined 644 hp and 590 lb-ft (799 Nm) of torque. It should have a range of approximately 30 miles (48 km).
