Aeroplan recently introduced HotelSavers as a way for members to book hotels using Aeroplan points at a discount, through exclusively-negotiated rates at over 7,000 hotels. The program provides members with more flexibility to redeem their points for travel arrangements beyond flights.
Under the current promotion, Aeroplan members can receive up to 25% Aeroplan points back on HotelSavers redemptions. Bookings must be made by December 23, 2022, and travel must be completed by April 30, 2023.
Let’s dive into all the details.
Register for the Offer
All Aeroplan members are eligible for this promotion for up to 25% points back on hotel redemptions.
To register, simply head to the promotion’s landing page, enter your Aeroplan number, and then you’re all set.
Note that registration is required prior to making eligible hotel bookings, so be sure to to register before booking your first stay. Members should have already received an email with an invitation to sign up.
Up to 25% Points Back on Hotel Redemptions
After registering, Aeroplan members will be able to get up to 25% Aeroplan points back on all hotel redemptions made through HotelSavers. Points will be rebated into the Aeroplan account within six weeks after travel takes place.
The amount of points you’ll get back depends on how many nights you stay:
- For stays of 1–2 nights, you’ll get 10% points back
- For stays of 3 nights, you’ll get 15% points back
- For stays of 4+ nights, you’ll get 25% points back
Each stay counts as one booking, so making two separate 2-night bookings would earn 10% back on each, and not 25% points back on the overall total.
Take note of two key deadlines to ensure your stay qualifies for the offer:
- Stays must be booked by 11:59pm EST on December 23, 2022.
- Travel must be completed by 11:59pm EST on April 30, 2023.
Therefore, it makes sense to register for the offer as soon as possible, just in case you decide to make some Aeroplan hotel redemptions for travel up to April 30, 2023.
Should You Book Hotels with Aeroplan Points?
Under this promotion, you can essentially get a discount of up to 25% on HotelSavers bookings, which could make some redemptions worthwhile.
When the program debuted, booking a 5-night stay at the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa came out to 350,200 Aeroplan points, or an average of 87,500 points per night. When compared to a cash price of $6,118, you’d wind up with a value of 1.75 cents per point.
Currently, it’s possible to book the InterContinental Bora Bora & Thalasso Spa for 565,600 Aeroplan points, which works out to be an average of 141,400 points per night.
The same dates and room come out to a cash price of $9,873, earning a value of 1.75 cents per point, which is the same as before.

After accounting for the 25% return, this redemption would cost 424,200 Aeroplan points. Comparing this net redemption price against the same cost in cash, you’d now wind up with a rate of 2.33 cents per point.
Since our current valuation of Aeroplan points is 2.1 cents per point, the net value from this particular HotelSavers redemption moves in a much more favourable direction.
Keep in mind that there are ways to squeeze even more value out of Aeroplan points. For example, you could potentially score over 12 cents per point booking a premium class airline product, such as ANA First Class, instead.
Therefore, depending on how many Aeroplan points you have and what your upcoming travel plans are, you’ll have to consider the best ways to spend your points specific to your personal situation.
However, if you have decent stash of Aeroplan points on hand and want to ensure you’re receiving good value for every redemption, booking a HotelSavers stay using Aeroplan points with this promotion could potentially accomplish that.

Should you decide to take advantage of this offer, just be sure to stay for at least four nights, as you’ll get the best return this way. 25% back on stays of four or more nights represents significantly better savings compared to just 10% back on a shorter stay.
Luckily, it’s easy to crunch the numbers, as the HotelSavers booking page lets you toggle between cash and points. You can also decide to split the cost of a redemption 50/50 with points and cash, but you still wind up with the same value of 1.75 cents per point.
Note that you likely won’t receive any elite status benefits you have with hotel chains when making a HotelSavers booking. Therefore, if earning nights towards status qualification or taking advantage of your perks is important to you, booking a hotel with Aeroplan HotelSavers, even with 25% points back, may not be the best way to go.
Conclusion
When Aeroplan launched HotelSavers, its value proposition was slightly hindered by the fact that there weren’t necessarily any exceptional deals to be found. Members are usually better off redeeming points for premium cabin flights, which remains the best way to maximize Aeroplan.
With up to 25% points back under this promotion, the value proposition for hotel redemptions shifts into a more favourable domain. You could score a redemption value of 2.3 cents per point, which exceeds our target valuation of 2.1 cents per point.
Regardless of whether you plan to book any stays or not, it’s worthwhile to register, since it’s required before you can benefit from the promotion. Be sure to sign up by December 23, 2022 to receive up to 25% Aeroplan points back on all HotelSavers stays until April 30, 2022, and ensure that you’re booking stays of four or more nights for the best possible return.
