Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato Teased As A Limited-Production Special

Coachbuilder Zagato who blessed us with many stunning Alfa Romeo models in the past will soon add another chapter to its collaboration with the Italian brand as revealed by a new teaser. The new limited-production special will be called “Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato” and is expected to arrive in 2023.

The cryptic teaser shows the LED taillights of the model hinting at a complete redesign compared to the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan which could serve as a base for the new model. The lighting signature reveals a Kammback treatment for the rear end, following the example of the 1963 Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ and the rest of the “Tubolare Zagato” series including the more recent Dodge Viper-based 2011 Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale.

The SWB part of the name suggests that the model will have a shortened wheelbase compared to the Giulia, likely combined with a two-door bodystyle. Note that a coupe model based on the Giulia has been rumored for a long time, and even teased by Alfa Romeo a few years ago in the form of the canceled GTV project.

As reported by EVO, the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato will be based on the Giorgio architecture, and is rumored to be available in both ICE-powered and fully electric guises. The former is expected to adopt a new version of the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine from the Giulia Quadrifoglio, tuned to produce more than the 532 hp (397 kW / 540 PS) of the flagship GTAm. As for the zero-emission variant, it could borrow the triple electric motor setup from the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore which produces 751 hp (560 kW / 761 PS), although nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

Does this mean that the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato is the much-anticipated flagship sportscar/supercar that is expected to be unveiled in March 2023? We will be watching for new teasers and extra bits of information as Alfa Romeo boss Jean-Philippe Imparato recently promised to reveal more about the model soon.
