Bank’s Credit Offtake Continues To Outpace Deposit Growth, Hits Seven-Year High: CareEdge

Bank’s credit offtake continued to witness increased growth at 15.5% YoY, expanding by a significant ~980 basis points, for the fortnight ended August 26, 2022, up from 5.6% in the year-ago period (reported August 27, 2021) and increasing sequentially by 0.2% from the immediate fortnight (August 12, 2022). In absolute terms, credit outstanding stood at Rs 124.6 lakh crore as of August 26, 2022, growing by Rs 16.7 lakh crore over the last 12 months.

Deposits stood at Rs 169.9 lakh crore for the fortnight ended August 26, 2022, registering a growth of 9.5% YoY. Meanwhile, in absolute terms, bank deposits have increased by Rs 14.8 lakh crore over the last twelve months.

The deposits increased by 0.3% from the immediately preceding fortnight (reported on August 12, 2022). The time deposits grew by 8.3% YoY, while demand deposits rose by 15.4% in the reporting fortnight when compared with 8.6% and 16.2% YoY, respectively, reported in the fortnight ended August 27, 2021.
