Billionaire Gautam Adani became world’s fourth-richest person, overtaking Microsoft Corp.’s co-founder Bill Gates, after the Indian tycoon’s wealth grew by around Rs 2.8 lakh crore this year alone.
Adani’s personal wealth has topped $112.5 billion (nearly Rs 9 lakh crore), surpassing Bill Gates’ net worth by $230 million (Rs 1,830 crore), according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Also, Adani is the only billionaire on the top 10 list whose net worth increased this year.
Adani is now behind Tesla Inc.’s Elon Musk, Amazon.com Inc.’s founder Jeff Bezos and Bernard Arnault, founder and chief executive officer at Louis Vuitton, the luxury fashion brand.
Adani is the founder of Adani Group, a Ahmedabad-based conglomerate that has interests in logistics, power, energy, packaged goods and recently, cement. In June, to mark his 60th birthday, Adani pledged to donate Rs 60,000 crore to social causes.
The billionaires index, compiled by Bloomberg, is a daily ranking based on changes in markets and economy. It is updated every day.
