Another free update is coming to Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 7 on July 28. Included in the software patch version 1.19 are a trio of new cars along with new Scapes photo settings. Now, we have confirmation that the Porsche 918 Spyder is one of those three cars.
Last week, Gran Turismo’s creator Kazunori Yamauchi tweeted out a very dark teaser with faint silhouettes of three cars. Today, we know that they are the Porsche 918, the Nissan Skyline Super Silhouette, and the Maserati A6GCS/53 Spyder. While dramatically different from one another, each of these cars has historical significance.
The Porsche joins the GT7 lineup as the second of the three cars that make up the ‘holy trinity’ of hybridized hypercars that came out around the same time. The other already in the game is the McLaren P1 though it’s worth noting that only a P1 GTR version is currently available. The Ferrari LaFerrari has yet to make any sort of appearance.
Fans can soothe themselves with another red-bodied Italian racer though in the form of the Maserati A6GCS/53 Spyder which won the Gran Turismo Award back at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2014. That award comes with future immortalization in the Gran Turismo franchise sometime (often many years) down the road.
Finally, the Nissan Skyline Super Silhouette was one of the most dominant Group 5 racers of its time and happens to be the first car in GT7 to be brought back to the franchise after missing from every iteration after the PS1 era.
A pair of new Scapes photo spaces has also been revealed including Tomica Town, the first non-real location featured in such a way on GT7. The other is a place called Dogo Onsen, the location of an ancient hot spring in Japan’s Shikoku region. Expect other tweaks and bug fixes not yet announced as well.
A game update server maintenance period is scheduled from 06:00-08:00 UTC on Thursday, July 28, during which players can begin the download. Which of these three automobiles are you most excited to get behind the virtual wheel of? Let us know in the comments below!
