James May Apparently Crashed A Mitsubishi Evo VIII While Filming For The Grand Tour

James May was allegedly hospitalized earlier this year after crashing a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII during filming for a new special of The Grand Tour.

It is understood that The Grand Tour was filming a special in Norway back in March, including at a Norwegian naval base near Tromsø. May was behind the wheel of a yellow Evo VIII while Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond were driving a Subaru Impreza WRX STI and an Audi RS4.

The Sun reports that the trio were filming a segment in a tunnel when May lost control of the Mitsubishi at 75 mph (121 km/h) and jackknifed into a rock wall. He reportedly hit the wall with such force that he had to be taken to hospital where it was discovered that he had broken at least one rib in the smash. He also had to undergo a brain scan to see if he suffered any internal damage.

“It looked extremely worrying at first,” a source told The Sun. “Jeremy and Richard were concerned about their mate and the paramedics swooped in quickly. As ever on a shoot of this scale, medical staff are waiting in the wings in case — as they did here — things go horribly wrong. James smashed his head quite hard in the impact, and was bloodied by it. He was complaining about pain in his back and neck.”

It is understood that May had to abandon filming the following day, leaving Clarkson and May to continue on without him.

Limited details are known about The Grand Tour’s Norwegian special, including whether or not it will be limited to Norway or if other countries will be visited. We expect it to either be released before the end of this year or in early 2023.
