It’s rare that we come across modified Jaguars, let alone ones as extensively modified as this 1998 Jaguar XKR “Badcat”. Listed for sale on The Market, where it sold for £22,000 ($26,792), the car is the result of 13 years of research and development, undergoing multiple iterations until the winning formula was determined.
The highlight of this XKR is its powertrain. As it currently stands, the Jaguar boasts a heavily modified 4.4-liter supercharged V8 sourced from a Range Rover, and it makes a staggering 632 hp (641 PS / 471 kW) and 594 lb-ft (805 Nm) of torque.

For comparison, the stock Jaguar 4.0-liter supercharged V8 made “only” 370 hp (375 PS / 276 kW) and 387 lb-ft (525 Nm) of torque. Some of the modified engine’s many upgrades include custom forged pistons, ported cylinder heads, a Whipple supercharger fed by a custom hood scoop, a standalone ECU, and a completely custom exhaust system from the headers back. And to support those upgrades, the oil and cooling systems have been beefed up as well.
On top of that, the car was fitted with a manual transmission, a trait no factory XK can claim, and it sends the engine’s power to the rear wheels via a McCleod twin-plate ceramic clutch, a Quaife limited slip differential, and a reinforced driveshaft. Aero add-ons include a sizeable front splitter and rear wing, while other mechanical upgrades include Nitron coilovers, Brembo brake calipers, EBC brake pads, and larger vented brake discs.

But as mean and track focused as this Jag is, it’s also surprisingly classy. Finished in Sapphire Blue with yellow accents, the car wears a gentleman racer’s spec that hearkens back to some classic motorsport liveries. As for those yellow accents, they can be found around the grille, on the leading edge of the splitter, and the trailing edge of the wing, as well as on the engine cover and the brake calipers that sit behind a set of Ascari wheels color-matched to the body. And the car’s elegance is not lost on the interior, either, because it’s upholstered fully in tan leather with blue racing harnesses to match the exterior.
