Joining a global rally sparked by a softer-than-expected US inflation reading, the S&P BSE Sensex Index jumped as much as 1.8% to 61,685.51 on Friday, a whisker away from its record closing high of 61,765.59 on Oct. 18 last year. The NSE Nifty 50 Index climbed 1.7%, also approaching unprecedented closing levels. Of the 46 Nifty firms that have announced September-quarter results so far, 31 have met or beaten analysts’ estimates.
