Storm Down The Quarter-Mile With This 2012 Ford Mustang Shelby 1000

A rare 2012 Ford Mustang Shelby 1000 is bound for auction in January and while it looks relatively understated, it is anything but.

Launched five years after the Ford Shelby GT500, the 1000 lifted performance to new heights thanks to the fitment of a 5.4-liter V8 joined with a Kenne Bell 3.4-liter liquid-cooled supercharger and rated at 1,000 hp. Mated alongside this engine is a six-speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter, sending power through the rear wheels.

Shelby made no less than 42 individual upgrades to turn the GT500 into the 1000. These included the installation of an aluminum driveshaft driving a 9-inch rear end, unique K-members, Shelby/Eibach K2 adjustable suspension, and a billet aluminum rear Watt’s link. The Mustang Shelby 1000 also features a potent braking system with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers.

A handful of exterior upgrades were made to the car. These included the fitment of a distinctive hood with functional heat extractors, a unique front splitter, and a more pronounced rear diffuser. It also sits on unique 20×9-inch front and 20×11-inch forged aluminum wheels with sticky rubber to efficiently transit power to the pavement.

Shelby American also worked its magic on the cabin of the car, fitting new sport seats, an A-pillar guage pod, dual-zone air conditioning, a white shift knob, and an individually numbered plaque.

Just 23 examples of the Mustang Shelby 1000 were ever produced and this one is numbered ‘CSM 12SM0025.’ Despite it being a decade old, it has only been driven 150 miles (242 km) and will no doubt attract a lot of attention at January’s Mecum sales event.
