The Tesla Roadster Is Not Even On Sale Yet It’s The Most Popular Electric Supercar Online

Zero-emission supercars and hypercars are already a thing, with more and more exotic vehicles adopting a fully electric powertrain. But what has the internet to say about them? A new study reveals the most popular EV supercars online, with the Tesla Roadster comfortably sitting on the top spot despite the numerous delays in the debut of its final production version.

The original Tesla Roadster was in production between 2008 and 2012 but it’s probably the second generation that is causing all the drama on social media. The concept appeared in 2017 promising wild specs, but five years later we are still waiting for the market launch which has been pushed back to 2023.

Despite that, the Tesla Roadster has 8.4 million searches on Google, 288,318 hashtags on Instagram, and an impressive 242 million views on TikTok for an overall popularity score of 10/10 according to a recent study by

The insanely fast and powerful (1,887 hp) Rimac Nevera which is already in production follows in second place. The Croatian EV has accumulated 2.3 million Google searches, 4,739 Instagram hashtags, and 125 million views on TikTok. However, we should probably add the numbers of the Rimac C_Two which was the name of the concept before the production version was baptized the Nevera.

The third place is occupied by another limited production and extremely powerful hypercar – the 1,973 hp Lotus Evija. The popularity numbers of the Lotus however are significantly lower with 829,000 Google searches, 11,295 Instagram hashtags, and 18 million views on TikTok.

The rest of the top 10 includes the Automobili Pininfarina Battista (4th place), which is a sibling to the Rimac, the Hispano Suiza Carmen Boulogne (5th place) from Spain, the NIO EP9 (6th place) from China, the Aspark Owl (7th place) from Japan, the MG Cyberster (8th place) concept, the Rimac C-Two (9th place) concept, and the Drako GTE (10th place).

If you are wondering which is the most popular supercar independently of powertrain, it is the Audi R8 with 22.5 million Google searches. However, adding up the social media score, the seemingly immortal Nissan GT-R remains the undisputable king, with 2.7 million Instagram hashtags and 1.6 billion TikTok views. Lamborghini has the upper hand among supercar brands, with 58 million Google searches annually.
